We are a non-profit-making, community-based project, mostly resourced by volunteers.
We are also part of an “Alliance” of similar groups throughout the UK, working towards enabling their communities to become more Dementia aware.
We operate on the generosity of sponsors, donations and goodwill!
Our Mission Statement
- We aim to enable Bristol to become a “Dementia Aware Community”
- We believe that people with Dementia have the right to a good quality of life and to remain independent in their local community.
- We believe that people with Dementia have the right to live well, engage in and contribute to their local communities as long as they wish to do so.
- We will address negative attitudes and raise awareness and understanding of Dementia.
(With thanks to Camelford & Torbay Dementia Awareness Alliances)
BDAA volunteers willingly give up their time to visit firms, community groups, clubs, other charities, schools and organisations.
Some also provide us with resources such as paper, ink-cartridges, photo-copying facilities etc. so that we can produce our “Guide to Understanding Dementia” .
We are managed by a “Steering Group” to move the project forward in achieving its objectives.
The success of our operation depends heavily on the number and commitment of our volunteers,
